Missed Dose Ozempic: What Each GLP-1 Label Says
In this guide

If you missed a weekly dose, the first thing to know is that the window is different for each product. The Ozempic label says within 5 days. The Zepbound and Mounjaro labels say within 4 days (96 hours). The Wegovy label counts forward instead: it looks at whether your next scheduled dose is more than 2 days (48 hours) away. Work out which medicine you use and how many days have passed, read its label wording below, and call your prescriber or pharmacist if you are unsure. They set your plan.

What to read first
Before anything else, check three things.
- Which product is on your pen. The windows below do not carry over from one to another.
- Your usual shot day and the day you missed. Your shot log or reminder history shows this faster than memory.
- How many days have passed since the missed shot. Count carefully, because the labels use days and hours.
Then read the label text for your product. The labels are written for prescribers, so the wording here is a plain restatement. For the wider picture on step-up schedules, see GLP-1 dosage: what the labels say, and for how the shot itself works, see how to inject a GLP-1 in the stomach. Our guide to injection site rotation and logging covers keeping a record.
What each label says about a missed dose
| Product | Label wording, restated | Changing your shot day |
|---|---|---|
| Ozempic | Take the missed dose as soon as possible within 5 days after it was missed. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on the regular day. | Allowed if the time between two doses is at least 2 days (more than 48 hours). |
| Wegovy injection | If the next scheduled dose is more than 2 days (48 hours) away, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is less than 2 days away, do not take the missed dose and resume on your regular day. | Allowed if the last dose was given 2 or more days before (Medication Guide). |
| Zepbound | Take the missed dose as soon as possible within 4 days (96 hours). If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on the regular day. | Allowed if the time between two doses is at least 3 days (72 hours). |
| Mounjaro | Take the missed dose as soon as possible within 4 days (96 hours). If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on the regular day. | Allowed if the time between two doses is at least 3 days (72 hours). |
These come from the prescribing information and Medication Guides linked in Sources. In each case the labels add that you then go back to your regular once-weekly schedule.
The Zepbound and Mounjaro Medication Guides also say not to take 2 doses within 3 days (72 hours) of each other.
What the labels do not say
Labels answer a narrow question: one missed dose. Here is where they stop.
- Several missed doses. The Wegovy label says that if 2 or more consecutive doses are missed, dose escalation is started again at a lower dosage, with the stated aim of reducing the risk of gastrointestinal side effects. The Ozempic, Zepbound and Mounjaro labels I reviewed do not give a rule for several missed doses. Call your prescriber, who decides where you restart.
- Which dose to take next. For a single missed dose, the labels do not tell you to change the amount. Ask your prescriber or pharmacist before taking any extra dose.
- Side effects of a missed dose. The labels do not describe side effects that come specifically from missing a dose. The Wegovy wording about restarting escalation is the closest the labels come, and it is about the gap, not a single missed shot.
- Taking too much. The Ozempic and Mounjaro Medication Guides say to call your healthcare provider or the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room, right away. The Wegovy guide describes severe nausea, severe vomiting and severe low blood sugar after too much, and says the same.
When to call a clinician
Call your prescriber or pharmacist when you are past the label window, when you have missed more than one dose, when you are not sure which product’s window applies, or when you took a dose by mistake close to another one.
The Medication Guides for Wegovy, Ozempic and Zepbound also say to stop using the medicine and call your healthcare provider right away for severe stomach pain that will not go away, with or without vomiting. Get medical help right away for signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing. Those apply whether or not you missed a dose.
Frequently asked questions
How many days can I be late with Ozempic?
According to the Ozempic label, the missed dose can be taken as soon as possible within 5 days after the missed dose. After more than 5 days, the label says to skip it and take your next dose on the regular day. Your prescriber and pharmacist set your plan.
What happens if I miss a dose of a GLP-1?
The labels do not describe specific effects of one missed dose. What they give is a timing rule, which differs by product. For Wegovy, missing 2 or more consecutive doses is the point where the label says escalation restarts at a lower dosage.
Can I take two doses in one week to catch up?
The Zepbound and Mounjaro Medication Guides say not to take 2 doses within 3 days (72 hours) of each other. For any product, do not double up without asking your prescriber or pharmacist first.
Can I move my shot day?
The labels allow a change of day as long as enough time passes between doses: at least 2 days for Ozempic and Wegovy, and at least 3 days for Zepbound and Mounjaro. Check the exact wording for your product and ask your pharmacist.
Notice the pattern before it becomes a miss
Dosinha sends a weekly reminder on your shot day and keeps a log of every shot, so you can see at a glance how many days have passed since the last one. You can also bring that log to your prescriber if doses were missed. The shot log and reminders are free. Try the free log.
